Welcome to Portablemind

What Portablemind is and how the platform fits together.

Portablemind is an AI enablement platform built on enterprise-grade data models. It brings together everything you need to work alongside AI: rich persistent memory, real-time chat, document processing, and autonomous agents — all connected to a structured record of your people, organizations, and business activity.

Whether your team is handling customer conversations, automating routine work, or building a shared knowledge base, Portablemind combines solid data infrastructure with modern AI capabilities so your assistants and agents always have the full picture. This guide walks you through getting started, setting up AI, and making the most of the platform.

The four core building blocks

Everything in Portablemind rests on four foundations. You don't need to master them to use the app, but knowing what they are helps the rest of the platform make sense.

Party model

Portablemind represents every person and organization you work with as a party. Parties can be connected to each other with typed relationships (an employee of a company, a contact at a customer, a partner organization), and each party can hold different roles depending on context — the same person might be a team member on one project and a client contact on another. This gives you one consistent directory that every other part of the platform builds on.

Business transaction events

Work that happens in your business — an order, a support case, a subscription, a milestone — is captured as an event. Events can be linked to related events, and the people and organizations involved are attached to each event with their specific role in it (who requested it, who fulfilled it, who approved it). The result is a connected history of business activity that both you and your AI assistants can reason over.

Security system

Access in Portablemind is controlled by capabilities — fine-grained permissions that define exactly what someone can see and do. Capabilities are grouped into security roles so you can grant sensible bundles of access rather than managing permissions one by one. Underneath it all, the platform is multi-tenant: your workspace's data is fully isolated from every other workspace on the platform.

AI and memory system

This is where Portablemind comes alive:

  • Rich memory graphs — AI assistants keep persistent, connected knowledge that grows over time, with pattern recognition to surface what matters.
  • Real-time chat — live conversations with AI models and your team, updated instantly as messages arrive.
  • Document processing — attach PDFs, Word documents, Markdown files, and images to conversations and have AI work with their contents.
  • Autonomous agents — self-improving AI collaborators that can run on schedules, use tools, and carry out work on their own.

An AI-first platform

Every AI capability in Portablemind — chat, memory, documents, agents — is available both in the app and through the Portablemind API, so the AI features you use in the interface are the same ones available for integration and automation. For API-level details, see the API guide.
